After leaving home in search of some kind of a future, Orla struggles to navigate the hostile chaos of London. City life is radically different from her tiny Irish village, but aided by an old school friend she manages to find a job, and a place to live just before she runs out of money. Flattered by the attention of a handsome police detective, Orla stumbles into an uneasy relationship but on a trip home for Christmas she falls hard for her best friend’s younger brother. The pair are inseparable for the few days she is home, and her heart is in shreds when it’s time to go back to London.  

Knowing there is no future for her at home, she forces herself to go back and try to make the best of it. Then a violent robbery where she works lands her and two of her colleagues in hospital. Timed for maximum financial impact the police suspect an inside job. After months of investigation, when they suddenly storm into the store and arrest the person responsible, no one can believe who was behind it. Discovering Orla is a story about courage and hope, trust, and betrayal. It explores the pain of leaving the familiar and the trials and ultimate rewards for the those who find the courage to do so.
